Before any asbestos removal can take place, it’s important to have an asbestos survey. It typically involves a thorough visual inspection and may include sampling of materials suspected to contain asbestos. There are three different types of asbestos surveys according to your requirements:

Asbestos Management Survey: This is the standard type of asbestos used to locate any ACMs in the building which could be damaged or disturbed during normal occupancy, including foreseeable maintenance and installation, and to assess their condition.

As per regulation 4 of the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012, it is a legal requirement for any non-domestic premises built or refurbished before 2000 to have an asbestos management survey.

Asbestos Refurbishment Survey: The purpose of this survey is to identify all asbestos materials that may be impacted during refurbishment. The inspection may require intrusive sampling to penetrate layers of walls, floors, ceilings etc. that may not be visible or accessible. We strongly recommend that a refurbishment asbestos survey is carried out before you undertake any refurbishment or renovation to a property old enough to potentially contain asbestos.

Asbestos Demolition Survey: This survey is a comprehensive and fully intrusive inspection designed to identify all ACMs throughout a property prior to demolition. This ensures that all potential asbestos hazards are identified and managed safely before demolition work begins.
